Before comedian Jimmy Tingle could start his newest gig, he had to make a visit to the roundabout.

Mr. Tingle takes up the gavel for the Art Buchwald Possible Dreams auction this weekend, and he visited the Vineyard last week to meet with event organizers and the staff of Martha’s Vineyard Community Services. The auction is the principal annual benefit for Community Services and takes place Sunday, July 28 at the Winnetu in Edgartown. The day and date are changed this year from the traditional first Monday in August.

By the time the celebrants arrived at the Portuguese American club on Saturday, the soup was hot, the chicken was cooking and the ice-cold drinks were ready.

Chefs Brian Patrick Hall of Oak Bluffs and Dylan Estrella of Edgartown were stirring their inaugural sopa, made with fresh linguica, beef and cabbage.

The old pipe organ at Trinity Episcopal Church was restored over the winter and will be the centerpiece of a concert this Sunday at the historic Oak Bluffs chapel.

The concert begins at 4 p.m.

“Music has always been important at Trinity,” said organist Wesley Brown, who has been playing at the church for 20 years.

In an effort to protect a rare and pristine groundwater resource, the Island Grown Initiative will buy the Dunkl family property off Old Farm Road in Chilmark, leaders at the nonprofit announced Wednesday.

The 23-acre property sits at the head of the Mill Brook watershed and abuts the Roth Woodlands and Waskosim’s Rock Reservation.

Sarah McKay, president of IGI, said protecting the water source struck home with the sustainability aspect of the nonprofit’s mission.

This weekend the Vineyard celebrates the feast of the Holy Ghost. On Saturday from 5:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. the P.A. Club located at 137 Vineyard avenue in Oak Bluffs hosts the party. DJ Ricky Prime spins the tunes and no one will go home hungry.

On Sunday at 11:30 a.m. the parade begins at the Steamship Ferry in Oak Bluffs and gradually makes its way to the P.A. Club. The party continues until 5 p.m. Food, henna tattoos, games, auction, face painting and music on both days on Sunday after the parade the Bay State Band.
