Compromise at Bradley Square

The neighborhood looks tired and a little run down. The old church is boarded up and empty, while a sagging cottage across the street has a For Sale sign in front.

This is the setting for Bradley Square, a proposed development project that envisions affordable apartments and housing for artists on Masonic avenue in Oak Bluffs.

State Primary

The Massachusetts state primary is Tuesday. Polls will be open in every Island town from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Polling places by town are as follows: Aquinnah, town hall; Chilmark, community center; Edgartown, Baylies Room at the Old Whaling Church; Oak Bluffs, public library; Tisbury, American Legion Hall; West Tisbury, public safety building. All registered voters are eligible to vote in the primary on their party ticket; unenrolled voters may choose to vote as either Republicans or Democrats.

Second Life for the Home Port

Chilmark voters face an important decision when they convene for a special town meeting later this month: whether to buy the Home Port restaurant for two million dollars in order to tear it down and build a parking lot and more public bathrooms.

The plan has been crafted principally by selectman J.B. Riggs Parker and has the support of the majority of the board.
