Open House for Debate
Tuesday’s lottery for seven affordable homes in West Tisbury was a poignant reminder of the struggle ordinary workers have just to build a stable life on this Island. Though many more than seven qualified — with rigorous financial preparations made — it came down to the luck of the draw.

Editors, Vineyard Gazette:
Clamming Comes Back
The Island is full of talented fishermen, but even those hopeless with a hook can enjoy clamming. Clams are captives, lying lazily in wait for their captor. Successful quahauging takes only a rake.
We were pleased to read the letter that Dick Knight and the Chappy Path Committee (CPC) wrote to your board and published in the Vineyard Gazette dated March 12. The conciliatory tone is a welcome relief to a year and a half of rejection of our assertion that alternatives to a mixed-use path need to be explored before tearing up the roadside and permanently changing the Chappaquiddick landscape.
The letter outlines four steps based on certain premises.

His paltry investments did rue
With portfolio tanked
That bright shining bank
Could only be reached by canoe.
