A calm before the storm
In an election year
Like none other
Bursting all around
Air filled with fragrant scents
And thoughts of democracy
Awakened creatures aroused
By a political morass
From winter’s pause
Intent to pollinate and court
Flower beds of hope
That we can restore
A unified renewal
Of the human spirit
Of a shared heartbeat
For life’s freedom song
Fluttering songbirds sing
Tuning to nature’s beat
Heard only in spring
As a wakeup call
Before the fall.
