The Tisbury select board voted unanimously Wednesday afternoon to award a common victuallers’ license to Catboat Coffee Co., which will receive it once the shop’s fire inspection passes muster with Chief Greg Leland.
A new coffee shop and take-out restaurant in Tisbury Marketplace got three thumbs up from the town select board this week, with only the fire chief’s approval needed for the business to open its doors.
The board voted unanimously Wednesday afternoon to award a common victuallers’ license to Catboat Coffee. The new eatery, set to open between Hutker Architects and Rocco's Pizza, will be a year-round “grab and go” coffee shop with specialty drinks, Lebanese sandwiches and dips and a cut-to-order cheese counter,
“You’ll be able to come in and provision up for your day, said Morgen Schroeder, one of five partners in the new business. “We’ll have breakfast, lunch, and maybe even some dinner offerings.”
The shop will run on a carry-out basis only.
“There’s no indoor seating in our space,” Ms. Schroeder said. “Tisbury Marketplace manages some little café tables out on the deck and some picnic tables out by Lagoon Pond.”
Among other business Wednesday, the select board voted in favor of hiring new police officer Jameson Rose once he has graduated from the police academy.
Currently living in Norton, Mr. Rose will move in with a family member on the Vineyard, police chief Christopher Habekost told the board.
Also Wednesday, the board agreed to have harbormaster John Crocker write a warrant article asking town meeting voters in April to approve using $1,200 from the waterways fund to study the possibility of expanding the dinghy docks in Lake Tashmoo.
A proposal from the water resources committee to add more dinghy space has received some 30 letters of support, but is opposed by shellfish constable Danielle Ewart, who said additional dinghy docks would harm eel grass growing in the area.

Just to clarify, the
Lynne Fraker Vineyard HavenJust to clarify, the Waterways Advisory Committee has submitted the popular proposal to expand the Tashmoo dinghy docks. Due to a placement misunderstanding the Shellfish Constable questioned the depth of water, which has delayed the project. The $1200 is for a depth survey. The floats will be built to conservation commission specs allowing light penetration. No worries, this is a much needed project meeting all regulatory concerns.
