Announcing Italo
Marilene G. Queiroga and Flauber F. De Souza of Oak Bluffs announce the birth of a son, Italo Queiroga Fernandes De Souza, born on April 7, 2011, at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. Italo weighed 7 pounds, 9.2 ounces at birth.

Cages at the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard are fast becoming empty, which is good news but soon kittens will be arriving so our volunteers will be busy again.
Please come in and consider adopting one of our long-term cats. And the sweet little bunny C.J. was adopted just in time for Easter, but Grace, the guinea pig, is still with us.

Food for Fines
Food for library fines amnesty week is April 10 through 16 at the Vineyard Haven Public Library.
Anyone with an account full of overdue books and movies can return them free of charge by bringing a nonperishable food donation for the Island Food Pantry,

Photography Book Award
West Tisbury photographer Alan Brigish’s book Breathing in the Buddha: A Photographic Exploration of Buddhist Life in Indochina was recently awarded first place in the photography category of the 2010 DIY Book Festival, which honors independent and self-published works of merit. The book also received an honorable mention in the spirituality category of the 2010 San Francisco Book Festival. Profits from every $49.50 sale of the book now go directly to pay for a child’s education in Burma, Nepal and Cambodia.
Scouts Honor
Kevin Oliver of Oak Bluffs was among those who received an award for service at the Boy Scouts of America’s Cape Cod & Islands Council tribute to volunteer leaders last month at Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School.
Mr. Oliver was given a council “Oscar,” a local award for service to the unit and council.
