Little Murders Everywhere? No, it’s not a warning about the demise of the Island, nor a message meant to scare. It’s the title of a new poetry collection by Rebecca Morgan Frank, who will read some of her work at the West Tisbury Library on Tuesday, June 5.

Ms. Frank will be joined by West Tisbury poet laureate Justen Ahren at the 5 p.m. reading, which is free and open to the public, with refreshments served.

Bookstore browsers and readers of all ages, rejoice: Edgartown Books, one of the Island’s two bookstores, will open today under new ownership.

The Main street store, which was put on the market earlier this year, was purchased last week by Jeffrey and Joyce Sudikoff, Los Angeles residents who own a home in Edgartown. The sale of the building and the business closed last Friday, May 18.

The building was sold for $1.525 million; the sale of the business was not included in the price.

In an afterward to Steven Raichlen’s love story that takes place on our own beloved little island off the big Island, locally known as Chappy, the author frets, in a witty way, that he might have presented the small, water-enveloped moraine as too much of a Shangri-la: What if too many readers are persuaded to move there, and Chappaquiddickers suddenly lose their much-cherished peace and quiet?

On Sunday, May 27, Pulitzer Prize winning author Richard Russo and his daughter, Kate, will give a reading at the Bunch of Grapes Bookstore in Vineyard Haven. This will be the first event to take place in the bookstore’s new space, across Main street in the old Bowl and Board building.

What a way to start a new era.

Josh Levy of Vineyard Nutrition is hosting a workshop for parents to learn how to make quick, healthy, budget-minded and seasonal kid-friendly food. Can you say manna from heaven?

The class is hands-on, parents, so bring your vegetable chopping skills to the table or, better yet, be prepared to gain some skills. The workshop will be held at the YMCA on Wednesday, May 30, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., with plenty of food for all participants.
