Reading specialist Kathleen Farrell will lead a free seven-session workshop for kindergarten students at the Edgartown library from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturdays beginning March 8.

Anna Edey imagines a world with little need for fossil fuels, that provides us with all the comforts and technologies we currently expect and enjoy, includes ways to grow fresh food locally and allows us to keep using cars without harm to our air, soil or water.

Susie Middleton, farmer, chef, food magazine editor, photographer, cookbook author and Vineyard resident, moved to the Island in 2008. Today, she is the owner of Green Island Farm in West Tisbury and just published her third book, Fresh from the Farm: A Year of Recipes and Stories.

The workshops are held Tuesdays from 5:30 to 7 p.m. through March 25. The poetry workshop is planned for intermediate and advanced writers and is taught by poet Donald Nitchie. The class focuses on critique.

The Martha’s Vineyard Poets’ Collective offers a poetry reading with works inspired by images on Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. at the Vineyard Haven library.

Betsy Bray will present a talk entitled Beatrix Potter: A Woman Ahead of Her Time about the author and illustrator of The Tale of Peter Rabbit and other children’s classics.
