It’s not too soon to think about summer camp. Registration is now open for this summer’s Felix Neck Fern and Feather Day Camp.

Featherstone Center for the Arts has openings for its upcoming art shows, beginning with February’s For Pet’s Sake. Pets have unique personalities and capturing them through all mediums is the focus of this show.

The annual winter concert is a showcase for students in the All-Island elementary strings program, from the very young with their pint-sized violins to older students on cello and viola.

The Martha’s Vineyard Ferries are playing the Katharine Cornell Theatre this Thursday, Jan. 9, at 7 p.m.

Josh Aronie, chef at Cafe Moxie in Vineyard Haven and formerly of the Menemsha Cafe, has been approved to operate an off-season food truck in the parking lot of the Chilmark Store. Mr. Aronie said he plans to serve a daily soup, tacos, sandwiches, falafels and a Brazilian lunch plate.

It’s January on the Vineyard, the time of year when the Island goes gray and dark, and really cold, too. Not the season one thinks about taking a dip in the ocean. But we are speaking now of this world, the one inhabited by those of us still alive and susceptible to the laws of nature.
