Nineteen Martha’s Vineyard artists have been working outside this week, en plein air, to take full advantage of the exquisite September light and crowd-free vistas. The artists’ media range from oil and acrylic to pastel, watercolor and pen and ink. Each artist will exhibit views of Menemsha, the Edgartown Lighthouse and the Tisbury Waterworks as well as other favorite Island locations. The work will be exhibited concurrently at Dragonfly, Periwinkle and Pik-Nik galleries in Oak Bluffs.
An open house at the former Denniston House on Masonic avenue in Oak Bluffs is scheduled during the Arts District’s Art Stroll on Saturday, Sept. 15 from 4 to 7 p.m.
The public will be able to meet the architects and members of the design committee who are renovating the property, which now will be known as Bradley Square.
Peace Rally
The Martha’s Vineyard Peace council is organizing a peace rally at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15, at what the council calls Peace Corners (Five Corners) in Vineyard Haven. It will coincide with rallies across the U.S. For details, call Chris Fried at 508-693-7741.

T he two brothers are seven years apart. One lives in Boston and one makes his year-round home in Oak Bluffs. They do not take vacations together or talk regularly on the phone. But from Memorial Day to Columbus Day, the Giordano brothers spend their waking hours under the same roof, working the family business established by their grandparents at the foot of Circuit avenue in Oak Bluffs: Giordano’s Restaurant.

Lucinda Childs, a pioneer of post-modern dance and a Vineyard resident, is the subject of a documentary screening free at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 11 at the Capawock Theatre on Main street in Vineyard Haven.
The 53-minute documentary was made in 2006 by Patrick Bensard of the Cinematheque de la Danse in Paris. It includes rehearsals, performances and interviews in London, New York and Paris with Mikhail Baryshnikov, Philip Glass, Anna Kisselgoff, Yvonne Rainer, Susan Sontag and Robert Wilson.
