Three artists will present new exhibitions opening Sunday at Carol Craven Gallery on Breakdown Lane in Vineyard Haven.

Christie Scheele’s show, Changing Winds, is a selection of exquisite atmospheric landscape paintings of Martha’s Vineyard and New York landscapes. This is Ms. Scheele’s fifth exhibition with the gallery.

A wide selection of beautiful eastern seaboard photographs by well-known photographer, Nancy Ellison, also will show at Carol Craven, Ms. Ellison’s fourth show there.

Louisa Gould Gallery opens a new show, Tone & Texture, with a reception tonight, Friday, July 25, from 5 to 7 p.m. with Don Groover on guitar.

Tone & Texture will feature the work of four artists in varying media:

Maya Farber uses representative acrylics to explore the fields and waters of Martha’s Vineyard.

Bob Jewett’s rich rust, green and gray bowls, plates and vases will be filled with artful flower arrangements by Johnathan Smith.

Three Martha’s Vineyard students were accepted into the prestigious OperaFest 2008 workshops on the Island, and two will be performing arias and scenes from famous operas with up-and-coming young singers from New Jersey on Saturday, July 26, at 8 p.m. at the Union Chapel in Oak Bluffs.

The Vineyard Students are Rosie Bick, who will sing Cunegonda from Leonard Bernstein’s Candide and Mitch Lowe who will sing in the Torreador Scene from Bizet’s Carmen.

The artist reception for Jain Tarnower will be held on Saturday, July 26, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Dragonfly Gallery, 91 Dukes County avenue in Oak Bluffs. The show runs from July 23 through August 3.

Ms. Tarnower has brought the almost-forgotten genre of oil portraiture to new heights with animal portraits ranging from miniature paintings to engaging eight-foot canvases. This classical American style has placed Ms. Tarnower in the forefront of this unique venue.
