Arts & Entertainment
At the end of last Saturday’s afternoon performance at the Yard Mary Paula Hunter, the founder of the dance company Jump, took a bow with her dancers, all of them teenage girls. The girls wore what one might expect classically trained dancers to wear. Leotards, ballet shoes, a tutu or two here and there.
Ms. Hunter, on the other hand, wore the ragged remains of a wedding dress. She was also covered in food.
The Island band Ballywho performed a little bluegrass outside the Capawock Theatre in Vineyard Haven Sunday afternoon as patrons lined up to be let into the movie house. It was a gray September day, but within a few minutes, Islanders were swept off the streets of Vineyard Haven and into the heart of a failing Hamburg restaurant, as the fifth annual Martha’s Vineyard International Film Festival came to a close.
Open Casting Call
Calling all actors, directors and technicians. Your moment to shine, or at least strut your stuff, has arrived. This Sunday, Sept. 19 from 1 to 4 p.m. the Island Theatre Workshop is holding an open casting call for its October 21 Pick of the Crop play festival.
Whether you lean toward laughing or crying is just fine because parts are available in both comedic and dramatic plays. Just make sure you are between the ages of twenty-five and sixty.
Music Festival
What if someone told you that this Saturday, Sept. 11, there will be an event featuring eleven bands, 4 deejays, a fire-dancer, and a brass marching band oompahing down Circuit avenue in Oak Bluffs and headed toward the Dive Bar for more music and dancing. Unbelievable but true, this is the idea behind the Best Fest musical venue beginning at 3 p.m. at Featherstone in Oak Bluffs.
Yoga Workshop
Say goodbye to the hectic summer and ease into the golden rays of fall with a three-day yoga workshop at the Beach Plum Inn in Chilmark. Beginning Sept. 13 and running through Sept. 15, classes will be held throughout each day and offer something for every skill level. Refreshments are provided for those who sign up for the full-day sessions.
Cost is $15 per class, $100 per day, and $250 for the full three days.

Farewell Sunday on Martha’s Vineyard
Martha’s Vineyard rested quietly in the golden haze of her warmth,
Her sandy thighs cooling in the wide blue-white wash of the sea.
The passions of the night had wearied her,
But her rest was peaceful and she glowed,
Like burnished gold in the late morning, easy warming,
Sun of this so fine a Sunday.
A grey dorsal cut the crest of a Katama bound roller,
