The following letter was sent to the Army Corps of Engineers; the author is chairman of the Chilmark selectmen.
The board of selectmen has brought a plan forward. It is now up to the wisdom of Chilmark voters to decide how to proceed.
At a first-class Vineyard seafood restaurant a diner asks the waitress: “What is the local Vineyard catch of the day?” The waitress responds: “I am sorry, we have no Vineyard fish on the menu today.” And the customer is surprised. “How can that be? I was down on the jetty this afternoon and I watched a fisherman land a beautiful large striped bass.”

Regarding the request for consideration of a tending requirement on bottom tending or sink gill nets in Massachusetts state waters: All nets must come in with the boat and not be left at sea when the boat is at port.
Fisheries management in New England is broken and here is just one small example of one of its glaring faults.
