Ted Stanley
Our airport has been mired in a sticky, sordid, struggle for some time now. It has persistently provoked people for years.
Neither the county commission nor the airport commission seem to understand their inter-relationship or their independence.
On Tuesday the voters of Dukes County will find a question on the ballot asking for approval to make an important change to our county government. The question and answer below may be helpful.
Q: Will I be able to vote to abolish county government?
A: No. The charter study commission, after 18 months of study, recommends retaining county government with minor changes.
Q: What will I be voting on?
This is an open letter principally to my fellow members on the Dukes County charter study commission, but also to the selectmen of the towns within Dukes County, the newspapers, and anyone else seeking better local government. These are frank observations which may be difficult to swallow and somewhat indigestible.
