Faces are lit up — store faces, that is. Main street Vineyard Haven has filled up for the 2012 summer season, complete with a handful of new shops that add some previously missing color to the harborside village. And the new stores are hard to miss.
High school students turning into zombies. It’s not only a fair description of students with looming finals — it’s what viewers at the Capawock Theater in Vineyard Haven witnessed on the big screen last Thursday evening at the world premiere of Ian Chickering’s latest film, Last Night on Earth.
Mr. Chickering, the writer, director, producer and editor of the film, is a 17-year-old student at the Charter School. Last Night on Earth is his eighth film; he began making movies in the fifth grade, and he thinks it’s his best so far.
Going to college entails a lot more than a desire to learn and some suitcases — unless those suitcases are packed with cash. As college costs continue to skyrocket, the need for financial aid is more crucial than ever. For the students of Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School, there is a loud response to that need.
