West Tisbury voters will be asked to pay for the final design phase of a new town police station at a special town meeting Tuesday.

Moderator F. Patrick Gregory will preside over the session which begins at 7 p.m. at the West Tisbury School. There are nine articles on the warrant.

Voters will be asked to approve a transfer of $80,000 from the overlay surplus fund to complete the final design and prepare construction documents for bidding for the police station project. The 5,200-square-foot facility will be located next to the town public safety building on State Road.

At a special town meeting in Aquinnah next Thursday voters will be asked to pay for the town’s share of the Massachusetts Estuaries Project.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the Aquinnah town hall. Moderator Michael Hebert will preside; there are seven articles on the warrant. A quorum of 39 is required.

Islanders lined up at the polls today to cast ballots in a presidential election that has riveted and divided the country. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Polling places are Aquinnah town offices, the Chilmark Community Center, the Edgartown town hall, the Oak Bluffs public library, the American Legion Hall in Vineyard Haven, and the West Tisbury public safety building.

The Oak Bluffs highway department has closed the ocean side lane of East Chop Drive from Brewster avenue to Munroe avenue due to slumping caused by Hurricane Sandy. The highway department is working on a short term and long term solution, and engineers are working on an immediate plan to stabilize the slumping areas on the bluff.
