The Martha’s Vineyard Hospital marked its third day in a row reporting a new case of Covid-19, bringing the Islandwide total to 19 positives.

Masks or face coverings are now required in most public places indoors and out on the Vineyard. But there is one place where they are conspicuously not required.

Covid-19 cases continued to climb on the Island Wednesday, with the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital reporting the third positive coronavirus case in just as many days, bringing the Islandwide total to 18.

In a forceful letter, the Oak Bluffs selectmen this week called on the Steamship Authority to make immediate repairs to the summer ferry terminal on the North Bluff.

The financially woe-begotten Steamship Authority has seen a short-term jump in traffic, general manager Bob Davis announced at the weekly board meeting Tuesday, although he said the long-term picture remains a question mark. Ferry traffic is trending upward again.

Hospital officials confirm the 17th case of coronavirus on Martha's Vineyard, as Gov. Charlie Baker tells non-essential businesses to remain closed until May 18, saying it is too early to let up on restrictions.
