Sing Out! Island Community Chorus Holiday Concert

Continuing a tradition that dates to 1999, the Island Community Chorus takes to the stage of the Old Whaling Church on Dec. 1 and 2 to open the Christmas season with its 20th annual holiday concert.

Led by artistic director Peter Boak and with accompanist L. Garrett Brown at the piano, the chorus will sing a program of sacred and secular pieces in English, Latin and Hebrew. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday, and both shows will be followed by a reception downstairs in the Baylies Room featuring treats prepared by members of the choir.

Minnesingers Bring Broadway to Island

By NIS KILDEGAARD

It's been a common shorthand for years to describe the Minnesingers, the elite performing ensemble of the Martha's Vineyard Regional High School, as a singing group that also dances. By NIS KILDEGAARD

"For the beauty and wonder of your creation, in earth and sky and sea," read Varian Cassat from her place at the pulpit, and the congregation sent its response echoing from the high ceilings of Grace Church: "We thank you, God."

The litany of gratitude found its cadence and continued:

"For our daily food and drink, our homes and families, and our friends:"

"We thank you, God."
