Four longtime teachers at the regional high school have announced their retirements.

Paul Brissette, chairman of the art, design and technology department; Keith Dodge of the English department; Leo Frame, chairman of the business department; and Janice Frame of the art department, will all retire at the end of the 21012-2013 school year.

While searching the depths of the sea floor for marine life, Jesse Ausubel realized something else. Out of the sea floor sediments leaked methane, a natural gas, which mussels, tube worms and other creatures thrived on.

“These animals were living off what we call methane seeps,” said Mr. Ausubel. “That was one clue that methane is more abundant under the sea floor than we had believed.”

A new sidewalk and fresh paint are in store for Skiff avenue in Tisbury as town officials attempt to make the road safer for pedestrians, bicyclists and cars. On Tuesday night the Martha’s Vineyard Commission, on behalf of the Tisbury department of public works and planning board, held a public meeting at the Tisbury Senior Center to present shared-user path options for two areas: Skiff avenue and a section of Beach Road from Wind’s Up Watersports to Saltwater Restaurant.

Among the green-trimmed houses on High street in Edgartown, Norman Bridwell’s home sticks out. The shutters and doors are bright red. And in the window hangs a paper-sized illustration of a familiar dog —a big, red dog to be exact.

“Red has been good to me,” said Mr. Bridwell (84) at his home last week.

Last Wednesday, 60 students walked into the newly-renovated West Tisbury School kitchen, chatting and giggling while they waited in line for their hot lunches. The scents of tomato sauce and garlic filled the cafeteria, while head cook Jenny Devivo bustled in the kitchen, feverishly slicing up cheese and pepperoni pizzas.
