Capt. Geoff Freeman and the boys of the ladder truck set the bar high for our first dinner of the new year. Geoff managed to get his hands on a tender pork loin from his father in law at Reliable Market, plus there was Chris Hargy’s homemade chowder and Buck Martin’s dessert selections! Many resolutions were broken in an attempt to sample some of each.

My, how time flies. It seems as though the summer gets shorter each year and before you know it, it’s time to trade swimsuits for sweaters. It feels like just yesterday we had our summer kick-off barbecue, and now we are ready to start our monthly dinners again. Summer did not escape us without another eventful season here at the fire station — fires were fought, skillets were tossed and champions were made.

More than 40 members of the association made the annual trip to our Chappy station recently for the monthly dinner and meeting. Capt. Peter Wells and his crews of Engines 3 and 5 put on a nice spread of meat and vegetable lasagna, Waldorf salad, green salad, and garlic bread. The boys also had a delicious cake in honor of the recent retirement of Capt. Dick Knight.
