When Steve Ewing learned he would be given the 32nd Creative Living Award, presented each year by the Permanent Endowment Fund, he wasn’t initially sure why he had been chosen. But his contribution is a little bit of everything, from a work ethic forged by an ordinary life to a gift for poetry.

Brock Callen Jr. insists that sailing 67 miles in five hours on a kiteboard isn’t really that much. What it really is, he said, is amazing. There’s no other sport that fosters such interaction between sailor, wind and water.

If you were to stand at the intersection of fashion, marketing and footwear you would find Ruthie Davis. And she would be wearing great shoes. Ms. Davis, who has summered on the Vineyard since she was born, designs custom shoes for Lady Gaga and Beyonce, and was named Footwear Designer of the Year.
