When Vineyard Haven throws itself a birthday party, everybody’s invited. And when the birthday party comes in the form of the annual Tisbury Street Fair, nothing stands in the way of a good time — not even inclement weather.

Vineyarders and visitors alike gathered at Niantic Park on Saturday to take part in the ninth annual Vineyard Streetball Classic. The double-elimination basketball tournament for preteens and teens featured, as is tradition, three-on-three half-court ball. As part of the classic’s ongoing evolution, new traditions, including a free throw contest, were also added to the day’s activities.

On Saturday night many Vineyarders could be heard to exclaim that they would never wash their hands again. It’s a cry usually reserved for encounters with celebrities, and on Saturday night at the Martha’s Vineyard Airport, the celebrity in question was 34 and a half pounds, made of silver, and raised triumphantly over the head of Boston Bruins president Cam Neely.

The Little League season wraps up this Sunday with two championship games at Veira Park. The minor league game will be held at 11 a.m., while the major league championship will take place at 1:30 p.m.
