At the behest of the all-Island school committee, a group of top school administrators, yesterday recommended two of their own for consideration as interim superintendent of Vineyard schools.

 

 

 

Talks Begin Over Tax Case and Legal Bills

A visibly frustrated William W. Graham told the West Tisbury selectmen this week that there is no way to resolve his costly tax case with the town unless the principal assessor and chairman of the board of assessors step aside.

"The real problem here is who is in charge," Mr. Graham said. "Because if these people are in charge, you can't win and I can't win and the town can't win."

On Monday night, Chilmark voters will decide whether to set aside another Yankee tradition - frugality - and buy the Home Port from owners Will Holtham and Madeline Moore for $3.9 million.

West Tisbury Voters Veto Legal Bills in Tax Case, Reject Town Hall Funds

An overflow crowd of West Tisbury voters this week delivered a stinging mandate to town officials, rejecting a $1.8 million cost overrun on the town hall renovation project and $250,000 in legal bills for the ongoing tax case between town assessors and resident William W. Graham.

The special town meeting on Wednesday night saw a record turnout of 288 voters, more than attended the annual town meeting in April.
