Following a banner year for Island bay scallops, the town of Edgartown has opted to extend commercial bay scallop season in Cape Pogue an extra two weeks until April 14.

The Dukes County Commission voted unanimously Wednesday to have the town of Edgartown take over the two-mile strip of shorefront east of South Beach.

More than 200 Islanders are expected to take part in Martha Goes to Beacon Hill on March 23, an event organized by the Coalition to Create the Martha’s Vineyard Housing Bank.

The two are the only Island towns with package stores, potentially halting nip sales on Martha’s Vineyard altogether.

In an effort to secure at least some oversand vehicle access ahead of the summer season, The Trustees of Reservations Friday announced it has withdrawn trails and beaches on Cape Pogue from its application with the Edgartown conservation commission.

As the Martha’s Vineyard Land Bank prepares to move to its new headquarters on Meetinghouse Way, the land bank’s commission recently announced a request for proposals to purchase its current building on 167 Main street.
