A long-awaited park along the Vineyard Haven waterfront opened this week during a ribbon-cutting ceremony with its owner, New England car dealer magnate and Edgartown homeowner Ernie Boch Jr.

Melinda Loberg, a former Tisbury select board member, filed a lawsuit against Havenside, saying the guests and tenants of the facility were illegally crossing her land to get to Vineyard Haven harbor.

Tisbury’s new harbor master is Islander Michael Gately, who is expected to start his job next week following a unanimous select board vote on Monday afternoon.

A plan to redevelop a stretch of the Vineyard Haven waterfront took a step forward earlier this month when the Vineyard Lands for Our Community purchased the first of five parcels needed for its ambitious proposal. 

In a meeting Thursday, Vineyard Lands for Our Community president Steve Bernier said the nonprofit is scrambling to raise the closing costs for a massive redevelopement project on the Vineyard Haven waterfront before the August 1 deadline.

The select board voted Tuesday to tap Edgartown police officer Gary Kovack to replace the retiring John Crocker.
