Soaring costs for the Steamship Authority’s expansive Woods Hole terminal reconstruction have reached new heights.

Steamship Authority general manager Bob Davis received a glowing performance review during his annual evaluation Tuesday, with governing board members unanimously praising his steady handling of not one — but two — viruses that threatened nearly all facets of the ferry service’s operations.

The Steamship Authority did not pay a ransom after a cyber attack shut down the boat line’s IT and communications systems for more than a week in early June, general manager Bob Davis said Tuesday.

More than a week after a ransomware attack crashed Steamship Authority IT systems and communications, the ferry line announced Saturday morning that its website was back up.

The boat line continued an inch-by-inch process of manually piecing operations back together following the attack last week that shut down its website.

The Steamship Authority was hit with a debilitating ransomware attack early Wednesday that reverberated across operations, crashing the website, halting vehicle reservations and crippling internal communication systems.
