Each summer for the past 18 years Keith Moskow has taken a photograph of his daughter Ava at Squibnocket Beach. In the series, viewers watch Ava and the landscape change over time.

The paths have moved, the dunes are flatter and there isn’t as much sand as there once was. But the south shore has come a long way since three destructive storms hit the Island this winter, and managers say they are ready for summer crowds.

Worried about traffic, the Chilmark select board voted against letting Netflix film an adaptation of Judy Blume's Forever at several locations, including the Chilmark General Store and Squibnocket Beach.

Chilmark beaches will open on schedule this summer, but with new safety precautions including limited parking.

After years of planning, legal battles and a winter of ferocious coastal storms, Squibnocket Beach officially opened to the public on Friday.
