The newly appointed superintendent of Martha’s Vineyard schools will have a full plate when he begins work July 1.

Ever since middle school Charlie Parkhurst knew he wanted to go to college in California. He had never been there but liked adventures and the idea of living on the west coast excited him. His dream came true when he was accepted to the University of California Los Angeles to be part of the class of 2019.

The Island passed an important hurdle this week on its race to qualify for state funding to replace the aging Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School.

When Martha’s Vineyard Public Charter School director Pete Steedman thinks about the 15 seniors who make up the class of 2022, he said he is struck both by how close and resilient they are.
