Katama General Store reopened around noon Thursday, welcoming a rush of eager shoppers searching for picnic food or stopping by to see the results of an eight-month remodel.

The Katama General Store’s off-season make-over got underway Friday as the one-story red building on Katama Road was demolished.

The Katama General Store may be headed into its final summer as the familiar red outpost on the road to South Beach. Owners Jackie and Doug Korell hope to replace the 1958 building in the fall.
