The Aquinnah select board announced at a meeting Thursday that it would hire select board member Chris Manning as a full-time officer on Dec. 28.

A preliminary proposal for a new housing complex in Aquinnah kicked off debate among town officials about the tax implications of increased development.

After inquiring about the potential of other towns chipping in to pay for the education of children living on sovereign tribal land, the Aquinnah select board learned this week that the responsibility falls solely to the town.

The Aquinnah select board is hoping to learn if the town is responsible for paying the entire education costs for students who live on sovereign land owned by the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah). 

Aquinnah officials and residents have started crafting a strategy to address mounting criticism of the new LED beacon installed in the Gay Head Lighthouse. 

Chris Manning beat out incumbent Gary Haley by just five votes at the annual town election Thursday.
