Martha's Vineyard has a new U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla. A chartering ceremony took place at the Menemsha Coast Guard Station Boathouse on the water Thursday, Nov. 19. Top Coast Guard officials from off-Island joined together with the local station to ceremoniously charter the new flotilla, the Island's first in decades. Local boat enthusiasts and town officials joined to give their support. Flotilla commander Timothy R. Carroll and the rest of the flotilla was sworn in at the large workroom of the new Coast Guard boathouse. The flotilla includes interim vice commander Glenn DeBlase, past detachment leader David L. Pothier, immediate past flotilla commander 11-2 Chris Scott, and members Dawn M. Bellante, Jules Bendavid, Joseph M. Berini, Kenneth J. DeBettencourt, Robert H. Dwartz, Wayne V. Iacono, Karen A. Kukolich, Lorne W. Lewis, Howard B. Marlin, Steven M. Mathias, Veronica J. Murray, Brian G. Peltier, Norman R. Somer, and Derrick B. Teel.
