The hallmarks of late August on the Vineyard have had their say — the Agricultural Fair, Illumination Night and the Oak Bluffs fireworks speak loudly of tradition and community. They arrive together, a packed week at the end of a packed summer. They each sing their own song, but are also part of a summer harmony — one we know the words and melody to, and one we do not want to end.
But there is no interrupting the flow of time, and so we look ahead once again. To Labor Day, the Derby, the first day of school. New songs await and we shall sing them soon.
