June can be a bit maddening because it brings on so many aspects of the season, but still it is a month on the margin of summer. Then comes July, and we know the wild ride of summer is on. Each year June brings the sweet foretaste of summer, but it is July that brings on the feast.

Saturday brings a small turn of the calendar page, but a giant leap for the whole Island community. For next weekend brings July, and July begins the grand journey we call Vineyard summer. We push away from the shore of June, so many of us from so many places and so many different backgrounds, drawn together to share in this Island's sparkling passage through a season that will wait for us no longer. Summer is here, says July, and we must seize the day.
