The poet who called April the cruelest month never emerged from a Vineyard winter. We had little snow and few weeks of shocking cold this season past, but there was an surfeit of cold rain and gray days. All the more welcome the coming of sunshine and sweater weather, and soon an army of Islanders will emerge to paint, hammer, rake and otherwise renew and improve the houses and yards of our patch of land in the sea.
