The Chilmark Community Center hosts former Walt Disney Company CEO Michael Eisner on Friday, July 18, for a conversation about the 20th anniversary edition of his book CAMP: Life, Leadership, and Why You Never Stop Paddling.
Mr. Eisner describes his book as a “valentine to summer camp.” In it, he explores heartfelt memories from his childhood summers spent at Keewaydin Camp in Vermont.
The talk takes place at 7 p.m., and is billed as a nostalgic evening reflecting on canoeing, counselors and lessons learned. Mr. Eisner will also talk about the process of and impetus for writing a book about one’s childhood.
Susan Andrien, executive director of the Chilmark Community Center, will interview Mr. Eisner during the talk.
“We want to link his book with our own summer camp, connecting his thoughts on the power of camp as well as his years exploring childhood at Disney with the center’s understanding of the role of our own summer programs,” she said.
Ms. Andrien said the event is part of the summer fundraising initiatives for the camp.
“Ticket proceeds will go to the center and summer camp, helping to fund scholarships and reduced tuition for year-round Island residents,” she said. “Through hosting this event, we hope to create more robust programming as well as take some advice from Mr. Eisner,” she added.
Each ticket includes a signed copy of Mr. Eisner’s book. Premium tickets are also available, which include a half-hour meet and greet with wine, cheese and conversation beginning at 6:20 p.m., as well as premium seating.
