Letters to the Editor
I wonder how many West Tisbury residents secretly wish they lived in an uptight, sterile, gated community someplace? Not a lot, I’m guessing. Yet the current pressure to hem us in with a new raft of unnecessary regulations seems to come straight from such a milieu.
CRITICAL NEED
Editors, Vineyard Gazette:
For seven years, Rising Tide Therapeutic Equestrian Center has provided positive educational and therapeutic interactions with horses to members of our community with special needs. What started as a dream for a small group of dedicated volunteers has become a reality for Martha’s Vineyard. Rising Tide is the only therapeutic equestrian center on the Island, offering programs to more than 150 clients throughout the year.
NO SOLUTION
Editors, Vineyard Gazette:
We the families of Winthrop avenue demand the removal of the one-way section of Dukes County avenue. This incomplete resolution, to a problem originating from a failure of the town to enforce zoning and parking regulations, has created an unacceptable and unsafe situation for us.
TRUE COMPROMISE
Editors, Vineyard Gazette:
Steven Carter’s letter to the editor regarding dogs on Lambert’s Cove Beach was unfortunate in its tone and further heated up an already hot issue. A true compromise came out of the annual town meeting to allow summer days that include both time that is people only, and time when residents can share walks and water play with their dogs. The challenge now is to develop a plan to put it in action and enforce it effectively and sustainably.
MEMO TO COMCAST
Editors, Vineyard Gazette:
Thank you Pam Dolby, Jennifer Rand, Edgartown selectman and all the other Island town officials that are pushing Comcast to provide service to Chappaquidick. It is amazing to me that Comcast, a major corporation with massive financial and corporate resources, cannot find a way to either make the Chappaquiddick project financially feasible or see it as part of an overall obligation for the right to provide services to Martha’s Vineyard.
FREE THE BEACHES
Editors, Vineyard Gazette:
I find it embarrassing to reside in a town where the issue of dogs walking on a private town beach is discussed in length, yet at the same time we do not discuss and continue to exclude from our beaches all outside members of our community.
