The Edgartown selectmen learned Monday that one idea to alleviate the cost of bringing cable to Chappaquiddick is a no-go. In January, selectmen inquired if a “betterment” could be created in which the town would bill residents over time for the cost of cable service.
There is good news on the Vineyard waterfront for those who love to eat fresh-caught fish. This summer, for the first time in many years, black sea bass will be available in restaurants and fish markets. Sea bass are abundant in surrounding waters, a commercial quota system in place has meant that the quota would be landed early in the fishing season.
Plans to move a Chappaquiddick house threatened by rapid coastal erosion took a step forward Tuesday when the Edgartown planning board approved a special permit for the first stage of the house move.
The board got its first look Tuesday at plans to relocate an 8,800-square-foot house at Wasque Point owned by Richard and Jennifer Schifter, as well as a guest house and garage. The Schifter property has been threatened by rapid erosion over the last year; the coastal bluff is now 50 feet away from a stone pool enclosure.
The Island’s main port town will soon officially be a domestic violence-free zone.

The Aquinnah selectmen this week called on the newly-formed Gay Head Light committee for better communication and a stepped-up pace. “It needs more structure and we need to go forward faster than we are,” selectman Jim Newman told committee members who attended the selectmen’s meeting Tuesday.
The Chilmark selectmen will go behind closed doors later this month to discuss the conduct of the town human resource board, following two meetings last month that allegedly involved inappropriate language by board members.
At their meeting Tuesday the selectmen reviewed a written complaint from beach committee member Wayne Iacono about digital recordings of the board meetings last month that were posted on the town website and later removed.
