Selectmen this week debated how much oversight they should have over two issues. One was the regional high school budget.

As the fiscal year nears an end, the high school is anticipating some $230,000 in budget overruns, school accountant Mark Friedman said this week.

It’s been a busy spring for superintendent Dr. Matthew D’Andrea, who has been stumping at town meetings from Edgartown to Aquinnah seeking support for two major capital projects.

Aquinnah became the fifth and final town to approve the use of surplus funds for design work on the high school athletic fields overhaul.

In a busy meeting Monday, Edgartown selectmen approved a rate increase for the Chappy Ferry, signed off on two aquaculture permits and conditionally approved the installation of one upright piano downtown.
