The Massachusetts state primary is Tuesday. Polls will be open in every Island town from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Polling places by town are as follows: Aquinnah, town hall; Chilmark, community center; Edgartown, Baylies Room at the Old Whaling Church; Oak Bluffs, public library; Tisbury, American Legion Hall; West Tisbury, public safety building. All registered voters are eligible to vote in the primary on their party ticket; unenrolled voters may choose to vote as either Republicans or Democrats.

Second Life for the Home Port

Chilmark voters face an important decision when they convene for a special town meeting later this month: whether to buy the Home Port restaurant for two million dollars in order to tear it down and build a parking lot and more public bathrooms.

The plan has been crafted principally by selectman J.B. Riggs Parker and has the support of the majority of the board.

September Plunge

Keep a swimsuit in the bag at all times these days. The glistening water that seemed to wink at you as you drove by, flirting with you as you cursed the traffic and the work that kept you away so many days this summer, is still warm and waiting for you. Be ready to shed the dry clothes when the mood strikes you, even if it has to be a quickie. If you’ve played on the beach with the kids all summer, try going solo after school drop-off. Then surprise them with after-school snacks on the sand in their special spot again.
