It appears the bloom is fading on the Monster Shark Tournament that has been the cause of so much controversy in recent years, and that is probably a good thing.

Community-Owned Wind Farms

So the Vineyard has been named as a hot spot again — this time for renewable energy in the form of wind generation. The draft plan under the state Oceans Act has designated two areas west of the Vineyard as places allowed for building commercial wind farms: one on the Sow and Pigs Reef near Cuttyhunk and the other one off Noman’s Land.

It is often said there is no more noble calling than public service. Certainly that is true in this Island community where the quality of life rests so heavily on the selfless work of so many volunteers and public servants. Those who devote time to the service of others, from the political arenas of town halls to the corridors of our Island hospital and beyond to the work of Community Services, deserve the gratitude of all Vineyard citizens.
