Book Fair
The Tisbury School library will host a scholastic book fair Nov. 26 through 29, a fun-filled book sale and literacy event geared to excite children about reading and learning.
Parents, children, teachers and the entire community are invited to the Book Fair Blizzard, the name of the fair.
This annual event gives students, teachers, parents, and grandparents an opportunity to add to their own libraries, and to augment the libraries of others.
Gifts for Peace
The annual PeaceCraft Holiday Gift Shop opens Friday, Nov. 23 at the Tisbury Market and Deli on Main street in Vineyard Haven. Distinctive goods and holiday crafts will be available Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Fish Farm for Haiti Project sponors PeaceCraft to provide support to self-help artisan groups around the world. Alpaca Farm Open House
The Island Alpaca Farm on Head of the Pond Road in Oak Bluffs will hold pre-holiday open houses on Sunday, Nov. 18 and Sunday, Nov. 25 from noon to 4 p.m. Besides offering products from the farm, the open houses will provide snacks and hot cider. Hospice of Martha’s Vineyard will present Handmade from the Heart again this Christmas season.
All local artisans from candlestick makers to bakers are invited to contribute to this holiday fundraiser for Hospice.
The items will be sold at the Dr. Daniel Fisher House on Main street in Edgartown on Dec. 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Hospice is seeking any unique, handmade items, including jewelry, needlepoint, knitted items, paintings, photographs, Christmas ornaments and more.
The Permanent Endowment Fund for Martha’s Vineyard, the Island’s community foundation, made grants to 14 nonprofit organizations for a total of $28,000 in October, chairman Deborah L. Hale has announced.
The foundation provided a grant to Martha’s Vineyard Museum to support the development of an American history course curriculum for high school. Development of the new course work will be done in collaboration with the Vineyard school system.
Yacht Club Roulette
Test your luck and help Island kids at the same time: bring some friends to the Edgartown Yacht Club next Friday, Nov. 16, for a casino night to benefit the Martha’s Vineyard Boys’ and Girls’ Club. Organizers promise a fun-filled evening of gaming and good times where you can try your hand at blackjack, roll for the riches at the craps table, and spin your way to the penthouse at the money wheel and roulette tables.
