At the first of Edgartown’s gallery strolls this year, which will see the wine, cheese and music — oh, and don’t forget the art — spread out at four simultaneous gallery receptions on Thursday, Elizabeth Eisenhauer will be looking “to see what that little element’s going to be that’s different and unexpected.”
Each year, there’s a little bit of a difference in Edgartown’s Evening of Fine Art, according to Ms. Eisenhauer, who owns the Eisenhauer Gallery.
We all like to hear stories and many of us like to tell them too. But something happens when you’re in the hands of a master storyteller, one who has honed her craft over years of telling stories and teaching storytelling too.
Susan Klein will be telling her stories in her own magical way on Saturday, July 9 at the Martha’s Vineyard High School’s Performing Arts Center. The show begins at 7 p.m. and is a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity of Martha’s Vineyard and is sponsored in part by Holmes Hole Builders.
Chiddy Bang, the rap duo currently in possession of a Guinness Book World Record for the longest freestyle rap coming in at nine hours, 15 minutes and 15 seconds, played, alas, a somewhat shorter set at the Stars and Stripes festival held at Nectar’s on Saturday night.
The event was a benefit for the YMCA and produced by Neon Gold Records, a record company run by Chilmark summer residents Derek Davies and Lizzy Plapinger. The evening also featured The Knocks, French Horn Rebellion and Savoir Adore.
Milestones
On the weekend of May 13 to 15, the Rotary Club of Martha’s Vineyard hosted approximately 200 active Rotarians at the annual district 7950 conference held at the Harbor View Hotel in Edgartown.
Few people embody the statement “still waters run deep” more than Island singer-songwriter Willy Mason, equal parts thoughtful and lighthearted as he considers his musical roots and his career.
He is half done with his next album, which should be released around January. In August and September, he will be playing festivals in the United Kingdom.
