Melissa Hackney has headed the organization for 13 years, helping to fund the education and professional development of emerging leaders of the Island community.

“Her creative ideas and her and her ability to work with and encourage people of diverse backgrounds with innovative ideas for the improvement and sustainability of the Vineyard, has left the Island with scores of projects that have increased [its] well being,” wrote board member Karen Kohlberg Davis in a Thursday press release.

The MV Fellowship was created in 2006 to help Island residents working to promote environmental and social sustainability. It has awarded funds to support the development of projects focused on affordable housing, renewable energy, conservation, agriculture, health and Island cultures, as well as college and ongoing education scholarships.
