Mr. Ramoutar, the former communications director for the chapter, will take over from Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School teacher Dhakir Warren, who resigned from the position in March. Vice President Russell Ashton served in the interim.
The special election was held on Oct. 1. Mr. Ramoutar announced his appointment in a press release emailed to members on Nov. 8.
“I pledge to lead with transparency, integrity and collaboration,” Mr. Ramoutar wrote in the release. “Together, with the wisdom of our seasoned members, the passion of our youth and the partnership of our broader community, we will continue to advance the mission of the NAACP.”
