Autumn’s Offering

I sit outside quietly, the autumn tree stands next to me.

I sit outside
quietly, the autumn tree
stands next to me.

She’s lived much longer
than I will, standing
very, very still.

Perhaps the secret
that she knows; is not
to move, just plant your toes.

Accept the give
and take of life; that change
is our one true midwife.

That seasons turn, things come
and go. That wisdom is
not what we know;

but rather,
learning
to let go.
