Officials at Martha's Vineyard Little League decided Friday to cancel the weekend's opening day celebrations due to the impending wet weather forecast.

A parade was scheduled for Saturday morning along Circuit avenue in Oak Bluffs. After a ceremonial pitch at Penn Field, little league games were scheduled to take place across the Island.

Little league president Rick Mello said in an email Friday that league directors had reached a consensus to cancel all opening events for Saturday; there is no make-up day planned at this point.

The board will have discussions at its next meeting to see if festivies could be rescheduled.
