High School Classroom Briefly Evacuated

A classroom at the Martha's Vineyard Regional High School was briefly evacuated Friday morning after two teachers reported feeling dizzy, school and fire officials confirmed.

Sam Hart, coordinator of Pathways and Special Projects, said that school officials called the Oak Bluffs fire department "out of an abundance of caution." Tests conducted at the scene by fire personnel found no air contaminants, he said, and the classroom was cleared for students to return.

Oak Bluffs fire chief Nelson Wirtz said an ambulance and rescue vehicles had been sent to the school to evaluate teachers and students.

"The paramedics tested everyone,” Mr. Hart said. “It is something we take very seriously, obviously.”

Oak Bluffs Deputy Fire Chief Stephen Foster said later that no determination was made about what might have caused the teachers' dizziness.

He clarified that one of the teachers went to the hospital for evaluation by car, not by ambulance.

Editor's note: an earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that students reported feeling unwell.

One week ago I was struck with a dizzy spell at a work location. I attributed it to maybe being dehydrated, having blood tests the day prior, but not sure why. My husband while away, yesterday was also struck with a dizzy spell. Something going around? Any other reports from hospital?
