A former intern with the Tisbury police department has sued the town and a police sergeant for allegedly interfering with her efforts to be hired as a police officer.
A former intern with the Tisbury police department has sued the town and a police sergeant for allegedly interfering with her efforts to be hired as a police officer.
In a complaint filed Jan. 13 in Dukes County superior court, Danielle Clermont claims that Sgt. Max Sherman provided false and malicious statements about her when she was being considered for jobs with the Tisbury and Westwood police departments.
In the complaint Ms. Clermont contends Sergeant Sherman’s statements were based on her orientation as a bisexual woman and because of a personal animosity toward her life partner, Kindia Roman, who was Sergeant Sherman’s former supervisor.
Ms. Roman, who left the Tisbury police department in 2018, filed her own federal lawsuit against the town, Sergeant Sherman and former police chief Mark Saloio in Nov. 2020, claiming workplace discrimination, harassment and retaliation. That lawsuit has been referred for alternative dispute resolution.
Both Ms. Clermont and Ms. Roman, who now live in Westwood, are represented by Needham attorney Timothy Burke.

William Ex PBA Hong KongI have seen a number of stupid and self inflicted blunders in Tisbury Government over the past few years. This has to be at the top of the list.
If true or not, not the point. The officer unnecessarily has cost the town money. Both legal fees and likely some payment. If he said anything beyond she worked here, the officer should be disciplined at a minimum, which would happen in any corporation.
