I read with disbelief the incident at Chilmark camp. Let us summarize: unsupervised little boys played a game where someone could have gotten injured. By the report, this occurrence was brief. The problem should have been handled within the camp. Children corrected, counselors reprimanded. The end. The circus that followed should shame anyone with a lick of common sense. Possible “systemic racism” or “implicit bias”. Yet the lengthy report (with more to come!) found no racism. But that won’t stop them. You would be hard pressed to find a more left leaning community than Chilmark on the Island of Martha’s Vineyard where these children summer.
Yet facts and common sense won’t stop them. Absolute absurdity. My favorite is the old gals who immediately dusted off their burn the bra signs to picket the closure of the Community Center.
What a collection of cowards.
Heaven help us.

While the report found no CONSCIOUS Bias or explicit racism,
there is:
Conscious bias (also known as explicit bias) and
Unconscious bias (also known as implicit bias)
To many of us, this is a scary incident and the failure to recognize that this is a worrisome incident with or without bias
is of concern.
Would you be happy to have a child or grandchild tied up like that?

Daniel A. Brown Taos, NMDespite my liberal leanings, I agree with Ms. Gidwitz that the circus that followed the Chilmark Camp incident was far worse than the incident itself. "Unconscious Racism." Seriously? Seems everyone has an advanced degree in psychology these days. The fact that these were 8 and 9-year old kids doesn't seem to register on the minds of those who want to sacrifice these children to alleviate their white liberal guilt. As a teacher with 35 years experience, I know kids play out all sorts of irrational behavior without regard to implications or consequences. Please call off the self-serving lawyers and media. take a deep breath and realize that this was merely children playing, not a George Floyd incident.
