A. Edson and Norma Norton Rodgers of Edgartown celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Dec. 26, 2020.
On the couple’s wedding day in 1960, Norma’s father, Cyrus Norton, traveled up-Island to borrow two gas heaters so he could warm the upstairs sanctuary of the Edgartown Whaling Church, which had no heat at the time. The bride wore a winter white brocade silk gown, with a scoop neckline and elbow-length sleeves. She carried a bouquet of cream-colored roses. Bridesmaids wore green velvet, A-line dresses, with white fur muffs for their hands. The groom and groomsman wore black tuxedos.
After the wedding, the couple moved to Pensacola, Fla., where Edson was stationed with the Navy Band. Edson retired in 1987 after leading the Northeastern Navy Band and the couple moved back to the family home in Edgartown.

Happy Anniversary to my Mom

This was edited down soooo much from what was submitted and the title changed. That’s too bad.
So good to see these smiling
Steve Ewing EdgartownSo good to see these smiling faces are doing well. Hope to see you both around town, when the dust settles, to congratulate in person. I can see Cy Norton putting heaters in the church. I used to light the candles,as an acolyte,in the Methodist church when I was a boy. When it got too cold upstairs we'd move services downstairs where there was some heat. I'm surprised Cy didn't use the heaters in his shucking shed down the street.
